- Compression Adjustment - controls the amount of Fluid going into the reservoir
- Hi Speed Compression Adjustment - the dampening circuit that controls the shocks' resistence against high-velocity compression like hitting a rock or multiple small bumps. Adjusted mainly for bumps.
- Low Speed Compression Adjustment - the dampening circuit that controls the shocks' resistence against low-velocity compression like braking or turning. Adjusted mainly for cornering.
- Rebound Adjustment - the dampening circuit that controls the shocks' resistence when returning to its initial state, after being compressed by an impact. More rebound dampening returns the shock slower but increases the chances of "packing". Less preload dampening returns the shock faster and provides a bouncy ride.
- Piggy Back Reservoir - A reservoir that is mounted directly on the shock body. In the past, shock reservoirs were attached with a hose and had to be mounted somewhere else on the ATV.
- Pre-Load - the force applied to the main springs by the preload ring to achieve proper sag, measure in millimeters from the shock head to preload collar.
- Cross-Over - a cross over is placed between each spring. Once the spring is bottomed out, the shock will travel to the next spring. Elka offers a cross over that can be flipped around for adjustability. This adjustment determines how quickly the shock's travel gets to the main spring. How quickly you want this to happen depends on the style, type, and level of riding.
- Spring Shock - a shock assembled using Coil Springs
- Air Shock - a shock that uses air pressure in an internal chamber instead of external coil springs.
- Rider Height - the height of the vehicle when the rider is seated and proper sag is achieved. It can be adjusted to suit the rider's personal preference.
- Sag - the portion of the shock's travel used when the rider is seated. Proper sag ensures enough negative travel to keep the wheels on the ground and preserve traction.
- Stroke - the total amount of travel allowed by the shock, measured at the shock's shaft. Not to be confused with total travel of the vehicle. The same shock stroke can provide different wheel travel depending on the linkage, a-arms, or swing arm.
- Travel - the distance between the suspension fully compressed and fully extended. Can be measured at the wheels (wheel travel) or at the shock shaft (stroke).
- Tender Spring - the smaller of the springs on a coil shock. Used during Low Speed/Soft Compression.
- Main Spring - the larger of the springs on a coil shock. Used during High Speed/Hard Compression.
